Winter in the Großarltal – Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing & Winter Magic

The Grossarltal winter wonderland.

Nature, snow, coziness. The crackling fireplace, the panoramic sauna, and the winter sun on your face on the chalet's terraces are just part of the winter magic with us. The surroundings also make hearts beat faster. The Ski Amadè region offers Austria's greatest skiing enjoyment, but the activities off the slopes also promise complete pleasure. We find it especially wonderful that Großarl is a modern winter sports resort that manages not to be loud and intrusive while allowing nature its space.

Ski Amadé

760 km of ski slopes and 270 lifts in the legendary mountains of Salzburg. What more is there to add? Well, one could also mention the snow parks, 13 fun slopes and crosses, the gourmet ski routes, the highest farmers' market in the Alps, and the 260 ski huts and mountain restaurants, but all of that can also be explored by our guests at their own leisure.

Skischaukel Großarltal - Dorfgastein

There is no need to travel far. The ski bus stops right in front of our chalets and takes our guests to the ski area in a 10-minute ride. Whether as an entry point into the Ski amadè world or enjoyed entirely for oneself, the ski area right on the doorstep offers pure skiing fun. Exceptionally snow-reliable and generously laid out, the ski swing entices visitors alongside the „standards“ with highlights such as Skikeriki (early morning skiing), free Wi-Fi, relaxation spots, a funslope, and a snow park.

Snowshoeing

Untouched nature and the silence of the winter forest. Whether accompanied by our local mountain guides or, for the experienced, on your own, the Großarltal is also wonderful for winter hiking. Our sports shops provide the equipment; all our guests need is a little stamina.

Cross-country skiing

25 kilometers of cross-country ski trails lead directly from the chalet to the picturesque end of the valley in the Hohe Tauern. All those who prefer something more unusual can also try out the two illuminated night trails. Most of the trails feature both a classic and a skating track, and should there happen to be less snow, the Reitwiese offers 2 hectares of snow-covered cross-country skiing terrain.

Horse-drawn sleigh rides

It doesn't get much more romantic. Wrapped in thick blankets, accompanied by the crunch of snow, the snorting of horses, and the sound of little bells, you glide right through the picturesque landscape and admire the magnificent panorama. To top it all off, warm mulled wine is enjoyed by the campfire. A truly exceptional experience.

Ski touring

Among ski tourers, the Großarltal is one of the most renowned touring regions. Vast alpine pastures and countless peaks await individualistic skiers. Over 40 different routes offer gentle ski touring and, thanks to the high altitude, snow-sure walking and skiing enjoyment. Gentle ascents and descents for pleasure-seekers, rewarding peak destinations for advanced skiers, or even very demanding routes open up our wonderful region.

Ice skating

The leisure center in Großarl is also the meeting place for our ice-skating enthusiasts and offers fun for the whole family. You can skate here for free every day until 9 PM, and it becomes especially charming in the evening when the spacious area is illuminated.

Tobogganing

Right on the slope directly behind the chalet, on the illuminated natural toboggan run, or on the 35 km of cleared winter hiking trails – without a toboggan ride like this, a winter vacation just isn't a proper winter vacation. The toboggan express also makes the whole thing possible without a long climb, and the extra-long opening hours of the toboggan run also allow for a cozy get-together beforehand.

Of course, there are also the region's fine thermal baths, the many wonderful restaurants and bars that warm the soul in winter, and much more.
